You cannot change a person's mind about
the utility of firearms. What you can do is expose a person to the
facts. Only they can change their mind.

It's
Time to Bare Arms

People learn best by doing!
The
best way to overcome an irrational fear or lack of knowledge is to experience it
first hand and succeed in dealing with it.
In your wandering in life this coming
year you will meet some people that don't like firearms. You will note
that in almost every case that person has never experienced what a firearm is or
does.
Take that person
shooting!

Use tin cans on
the sand or paper silhouette at 15 feet, so they see the can motion or
target shot holes easily.

Use a low power
gun, preferably a revolver. Make sure they are close enough that they
hit easily.

Make it a good
outing, not to long, about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

Cover the first
three NRA safety rules. Make the outing safe but don't scare them
needlessly with horror stories.

Don't try to
correct their position or technique too much; let them enjoy the
outing.

Let
them decide when they've done enough.

Don't get long
winded recounting all your old war stories, they'll know that's a pack of BS
anyway.

Tell them the
address of this website so they can have a local starting point to explore
shooting sports.

Don't politicize
the new shooter. If they are thinking people, their new experience is
going to start them questioning. You need to plant the seed, not a
full grown tree.

The next time you
see them they will thank you for the experience and they will in some way
indicate that they are thinking about their opinions. They may very
well ask you about shooting sports and how to get more involved!
